The homeless and people living alone in and around Bury St Edmunds were given free Christmas Day meals courtesy of one Suffolk business.

For the Suffolk Hog Roast Company set up a stall in the centre of the town on the Cornhill and catered for those in need.

People flocked to the location to get a hog roast with all the festive trimmings along with a chat with the many volunteers who had helped and supported Jim Slowman, the owner, who organised the day.

By lunchtime dozens had taken advantage of the food and drink on offer and Mr Slowman had even organised food to be delivered to those in need across the town and as far afield at Thurston.

And he paid thanks to all the many local businesses who donated items for the initiative.

“We have been in touch with a lot of people and anyone who needs a meal and I will definitely do this again next year it has been so worthwhile,” added Mr Slowman who set up the company towards the end of last year.
