A critically-acclaimed hour-long play focused on dementia is coming to libraries in Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds as part of a national tour.

Oxford-based Human Story Theatre is promoting libraries as a new space for ‘pop-up’ theatre companies in the heart of communities with its performance of Connie’s Colander.

The play intertwines a mother and daughter’s journey with dementia and is a stripped back, no frills approach to theatre.

After the show, the actors facilitate a 20-minute Q&A with guest specialists offering information and stories of living well with dementia.

The audience is encouraged to share their own experiences, building on the story within the play, both to ‘offload’ and also to help support fellow audience members, and often people are signposted to services.

Connie’s Colander will be performed at Newmarket Library on July 18 at 10.30am and on the same day at Bury St Edmunds Library at 3pm.

Tickets are free but the theatre company will be collecting donations. Tickets can be booked at the library.
