Two people have been arrested and a man has been taken to hospital with stab wounds after an incident in Bury St Edmunds.

Police were called at around 8.10pm last night to reports that a man in his 40s was assaulting a man in his 60s in a property in Out Westgate in the town.

A woman, who was also at the property, is then alleged to have assaulted the man in his 40s.

When they arrived on the scene, police found that a man had sustained a number of stab wounds to his legs.

A 56-year-old woman was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre, where she currently remains for questioning.

A 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm and was taken to hospital for treatment.

His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening and he currently remains in hospital under arrest.

A man aged in his 60s was also taken to hospital for treatment to an eye injury and has since been discharged.

There were police scenes in place at the address in Out Westgate and also at a property in Castle Road, which is linked to the assault investigations. These were lifted this afternoon.
