A 67-year-old woman has been banned from driving after making the journey to her local Co-op while still over the alcohol limit from the previous evening.
Isabella Conway appeared at Suffolk Magistrates' Court on Monday to admit driving with 185 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood - the legal limit being 80mg.
The retired civil servant, of Upper Town, Pakenham, was stopped outside the Co-op in Thurston after her Honda Jazz reportedly clipped a kerb and struck a bollard upon entering the car park on June 20.
A woman of previously good character, Conway told the court: "The last time I'd had a drink was actually at about 10.30 or 11 the night before - and I went out at about 12 the next day.
"Maybe I hadn't realised the alcohol would still be in my system.
"I dispute hitting a bollard as there was no damage to my car, but I accept I'm guilty and I'm willing to make amends for whatever I've done."
Conway was banned from driving for 20 months and fined £500.
