The owner of a new town centre restaurant believes he will be able to offer something different to the foodie scene when it opens later this year.

Lee Gaught has run Meat & Greet BBQ since 2019, touring markets and food festivals across Suffolk.

After becoming one of the most established street food businesses in the county, Mr Gaught is set to open his first restaurant in Whiting Street in Bury St Edmunds, replacing cocktail bar Baskerville's.

He said: "I've always been a Bury lad, so when the right premises came up we enquired about it, put a business plan together and it just seemed to work hand in hand.

"We don't necessarily take too many risks. Everything is calculated on what we want to do."

While Mr Gaught will be opening the new venture, he is also going to continue running his street food trucks.

The restaurant will be a live fire steakhouse, with meat cooked in front of customers and hungry diners able to choose steaks from a dry-aged fridge.

It is part of the plan to offer something different to the town.

"I've lived in Bury all my life and probably over the last 10 to 15 years, there hasn't really been a flagship steakhouse or anything like that in the town," added Mr Gaught.

Opening a physical restaurant marks a big step in the journey of the company, and it is one which has left Mr Gaught looking forward to the future ahead.

He said: "It is proud. Sometimes you get caught up in what you're doing and you don't really take a step back.

"When you announce things and have a look at the jobs and achievements and who you've worked with, it is a proud feeling. But at the same time I don't like to get too carried away."
