A 47-year-old man has been charged with murder after the body of a woman was found at a home in Newmarket.

Olubunmi Abodundee, of Exning Road in the town, is set to appear at Suffolk Magistrates' Court charged with murder after the death of a woman on Tuesday.

In court documents, the accused is charged with murdering Taiwo Abodunde.

Officers were called to a property in Exning Road at 9.55am after reports of a serious incident.

The woman, aged in her 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two men, a 38-year-old man and a 47-year-old man, were arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police have confirmed the 38-year-old man will face no further action.

Suffolk Constabulary has referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, as per standard procedure.

Cordons remained in place in Exning Road on Tuesday while enquiries continued.

Suffolk County Councillor Rachel Hood said the community was left shocked following the incident.

A neighbour living nearby, who did not want to be named, said: "I came home yesterday morning and the whole street was just covered in police and ambulances, but two days prior there has been police.

"I knew it was something really bad with the amount of police here and the way they were not telling anyone anything. Normally they say something but they were very hush-hush."

Another added: "It’s just awful, everyone is really shocked. I used to see some young boys kicking a ball about in their garden."

Police are asking that anyone who was in Exning Road between 8.30am and 9.30am on Tuesday, in particular drivers of vehicles with dashboard cameras fitted, to contact the force.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Suffolk police, quoting crime reference number 37/68826/23.
