An award-winning East Anglian pub group is celebrating its 10th birthday with a new addition to the taps at its sites.

Fresh from winning a Catey's Award for best pub and bar nationally earlier this year, the Chestnut Group is continuing to add to its offering.

So far in 2023 Chestnut launched luxury lodge accommodation at The Weeping Willow in Barrow, near Bury St Edmunds.

Now, diners can enjoy an exclusive drink at any of the Chestnut venues across the East of England, as the company has announced the launch of its very own beer: Eastern Gold.

"This golden ale boasts a rich hue, long-lasting flavour and balanced notes of British hops with subtle citrus," said a spokeswoman for Chestnut Group.

"Eastern Gold 4.5% is available on tap and will be launching soon by the bottle. Using four British hop varieties, the beer is an ode to our agricultural region."

The recipe was created by a chef, David Webb, at The Eight Bells, a Chestnut pub on the Essex/Cambridgeshire border, who has been brewing his own beers in his garden shed for the last 11 years.

Not only did Mr Webb come up with the recipe for our golden ale, he was also crucial during the testing process when the beer was being created at the larger brewing site in Norfolk.

With the help from Barsham Brewery near Fakenham, the chef's usual 20-litre batch was turned into an initial brew of 800 litres.

Chestnut Group has launched Eastern Gold across all its sites in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire.

The beer is currently exclusive to the company, so interested punters should check their website to see where the nearest pub is.
