Plans have been submitted for a new dessert shop to open after a fire broke out at the previous location.

Kaspa's Desserts has applied to open a new eatery, opposite the previous site in Cornhill in Bury St Edmunds.

The firm has applied to take over the former Oxfam retail store, directly opposite to where the previous store used to be.

Just two weeks ago, fire crews were called to Kaspa's after a fire broke out – an incident that community leaders said they were left "very upset" about.

Diane Hind, mayor of Bury St Edmunds, said at the time: "I hope Kaspa's will be back in operation soon."

The application for the new unit, submitted to West Suffolk Council, states that minimal internal works are proposed to facilitate the dessert parlour.

Signage has been proposed along with the application, as well as the altercation to bring the shop front forward to be in line with units adjacent to it, according to planning documents visible on West Suffolk Council's website.
