Imagine performing your trade in front of an audience of 80,000 audience of Suffolk show-goers.

That is the feat being faced by students from three Suffolk colleges at the Suffolk Show today, as they battle it out for the winning title from three skills-based courses.

Students from Easton and Otley College, West Suffolk College and Suffolk New College are each battling it out for the title of best duo from brick laying, painting and decorating and carpentry courses.

Over the two days, each pair - selected by their respective colleges as being among the best on their course - will have to complete a challenge which demonstrates the skills required for their trade.

Construction manager at Easton and Otley College, Duane Randall, said demonstrating their skills at the Suffolk Show was a great way to improve the confidence of students.

“It’s good for them to build confidence, to build something in the public eye,” he said. “It’s good for their confidence, it’s good for team building.

“They have got to think on their feet. They are all good employability skills.”

The entries will be judged this afternoon, at around 3pm, with each participant to receive a prize suited to their skills.
