A Suffolk village cinema club has proved so successful in its first two years that it has been able to reinvest proceeds in a major community project.
Wickham Market Movies which celebrates its second anniversary this month, is said has gone from strength to strength, attracting average audiences of around 70 per film – occasionally as many as 120 people.
The not-for-profit venture has managed to not only cover its costs, and set-up a fund for improvements, it has also made donations towards Wickham Market’s new village hall project.
Its regular showings, held in the village hall on the third Saturday of each month, are said to offer a “friendly and buzzy” atmosphere. And with Lottery-funded projection equipment, a pre-show bar, and tickets at just £3.50-£4.50, organisers say it has proved very popular with family and friends alike.
Group chairman Pete Holden said it had become a “great community initiative”.
