A field of 241 tackled the 268th Bury St Edmunds parkrun on Saturday, as parkruns up-and-down the country marked International parkrun Day.

The popularity of parkrun has spread far and wide, since its inception in 2004. The 14th anniversary was celebrated last Tuesday, and Bury St Edmunds has been a member of the fold since June, 2013, with weekly 5K events held within the grounds of Nowton Park.

Conditions were damp, for the most recent event, but that didn’t deter runners, joggers and walkers turning out in force (one was even visiting from Australia!), or the much-valued volunteers.

Scott Williams, of Stowmarket Striders, led home the field over a two-lap course in 17mins 58secs, which was a personal best for the event. He finished 54 seconds ahead of club-mate Stuart Buchan (18:52). He also set a PB.

Katie King, of Saint Edmund Pacers, was the leading lady and sixth overall in 20:04.
