A woman has tonight been arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol and is in hospital after a crash in Bury St Edmunds.

Emergency services were called after a Mini was involved in a single-vehicle collision in West Road at around 9.30pm.

A member of the public reported the incident to police after the car ended up on its roof.

Three fire engines also attended amid concerns the driver was trapped, but she was able to get out of the car without the help of firefighters.

A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said it is not clear what happened before or during the crash, but said no other vehicles were involved.

The woman sustained minor injuries. Police officers carried out a breath test, which she failed. She was arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol.

However, she was first taken to West Suffolk Hospital in the town to be checked over, police said.
