A cycle shop manager from west Suffolk hanged himself while on police bail, an inquest heard.

David Kelleher, 39, was found hanged in his Newmarket flat on May 2 last year.

During yesterday’s inquest into his death, coroner Kevin McCarthy recorded a verdict of suicide.

The inquest heard Mr Kelleher was on police bail at the time of his death – though no details of his alleged offence were disclosed.

His failure to answer bail at Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre led to concerns for his safety and a police officer visited his flat.

The officer found Mr Kelleher had been hanged and no evidence anyone else was involved. A paramedic attended and confirmed Mr Kelleher’s death at 11.20am. He was identified by his partner.

Mr Kelleher had left three handwritten notes for his mother, partner and police.

Mr McCarthy, recording a verdict of suicide, said Mr Kelleher died “as a result of a self inflicted hanging”.

He said Mr Kelleher was a “private” man who “kept his friends from each other”. However, he said he “loved his mother very dearly” as well as his partner.
