For the event, which attracted more than 2,000 people, has raised a record £20,026 for St Nicholas Hospice Care, beating last year’s total of £17,500.

A special celebration and presentation evening was held at the home of Elizabeth Barber-Lomax, in Whiting Street, one of the former organisers of the event, which was attended by people who opened their gardens; sponsors Duttons estate agents, Gross & Co and Anglia Labels; and supporters.

A total of 32 gardens opened for the day held on June 17, and organisers said they were “delighted” with the response.
