The traditional war cry of New Zealand was just one of two world dances taught at a multicultural workshop in Bury St Edmunds at the weekend.

The free event, held in Nowton Park on Sunday, August 6, saw people try their hand at the famous Maori Haka as well as Indian dance in two hour-long sessions.

The group of parents and children spent half an hour working on the Haka before turning their attention to Indian dance Reflections.

Lorraine Theobald, teacher, said: “It was delightful. It was such a real treat to work in such a beautiful outdoor space.

“It was a small group but a lovely group of people of all ages. I also had a family originally from Bangladesh and the dad was able to play the drums so we had some live music.

“It was a relaxing and pleasant atmosphere and thanks go to the West Suffolk councils for organising the event.”
