Police have launched an investigation after a woman in Mildenhall reported cash had been stolen in a distraction burglary.

The woman, aged in her 70s, had been in her front garden in Pembroke Close at around 1.15pm on Thursday when a man stopped and asked her for directions.

Shortly after she returned into her house and saw a young man in her back garden. She challenged him and he left, before she discovered her purse had been taken out of her handbag and cash inside stolen.

The first man was described as “older” with grey hair, around 5ft 5in tall, and of stocky build, while the younger man is of slim build with greasy, slicked back fair hair.

It is possible they may have been in a white van after another member of the public reported seeing a young man and older man together in a van around that time.

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
