FIFTY vehicles were stopped and checked during a multi-agency operation in Suffolk on Monday.
The operation was conducted in an effort to deny criminals the use of the county’s roads.
Based at Rougham Lorry Park in Bury St Edmunds, from 7.30am until 2pm, officers were able to issue 18 Fixed Penalty Notices for offences including no insurance, no MOT and insecure loads.
Sergeant Julian Ditcham, of the Suffolk Roads Policing Unit, said: “Operations such as this put out a positive and firm message to road users in Suffolk.”
Police were also able to seize one vehicle for being driven otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and 10 immediate prohibition notices, eight delayed prohibition notices and 55 advisory notices were issued.
Automatic number plate recognition was used to stop suspicious vehicles before checks were made at the roadside, or at the nearby check site where further examinations could take place.
Police officers were supported by partner agencies such as the Vehicle Operator and Services Agency, HM Revenue and Customs fuel testing and Smartwater in targeting the A14 network and surrounding local roads.
A representative from Smartwater was on hand to check all vehicles and HM Revenue and Customs fuel testing dipped all vehicles’ tanks for unrebated fuel, with no offences detected.
