A spokesman for Suffolk Police said the object had smashed the driver’s side window of the articulated lorry, which was travelling along the A14 at Bury St Edmunds.

The spokesman said the driver, who declined an ambulance, reported the incident to police at about 3.45pm.

Police were told that someone had thrown an item from a bridge about one-and-a-half-miles before junction 42 travelling westbound.

A suspect was seen on the bridge by the driver and is said to have run in the direction of Bury Bowl in Eastgate Street.

The police spokesman said: “No-one was seriously hurt, but he [the driver] is shaken up.”
