DETECTIVES are investigating after a knife was discovered in a west Suffolk town centre.
Officers are looking into whether the find in Kings Road, Bury St Edmunds, might be connected with an attempted murder in Bury St Edmunds.
It is currently being subjected to forensics tests.
A pool of blood was also found nearby, and police are looking into whether that is connected.
The matter is being handled by Suffolk police’s major investigations team.
A spokesman for the force said: “We can confirm that a weapon has been recovered from an area in Kings Street, Bury St Edmunds.
“The weapon will be subject to a detailed forensic examination and tests to see if it is linked to a crime.”
Police are investigating whether it is linked to an alleged attempted murder in Gosnold Street on New Year’s Day.
Four people – Siju Roseje, 30, from Robinson Way, Wootton, in Northampton; Peter Raeburn, 32, from Macquarie Quay, Eastbourne; Rhys Hammond, 18, from Rushbrooke, near Bury St Edmunds, and Ryan Otto, 32, from Airfield Road, Bury St Edmunds – have all been charged with attempted murder.
In a separate incident, a man in his 50s is recovering after he had a bottle thrown at him which left a 12cm gash in his forehead.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the incident in Westley Road, Bury St Edmunds, at about 7pm on Tuesday night.
The victim was taken to West Suffolk Hospital, in Bury, for treatment and was kept in overnight.
Police have arrested three men on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
