A Bury St Edmunds man raised more than £400 for a stillbirth charity after completing the London Marathon on Sunday.

Paul Jones, 47, joined a 44-strong team running for Sands (Stillbirth and neonatal death charity) and completed the course in five hours.

Sands hopes to raise more than £70,000 from the event which will be used to support bereaved families improve bereavement care received by parents and to promote research to reduce the number of babies dying.

Fifteen babies die before, during and shortly after birth every day in the UK.

Clea Harmer, chief executive of Sands, said: “I’d like to say a big thank you and congratulations to each and every one of our fantastic London Marathon runners.

“We simply wouldn’t be able to continue with our work to support bereaved parents and their families, without the dedication and support from people like Paul.”
