Suffolk road will remain closed today after man’s body found in unexplained circumstances

A road in Woolpit where a dead body was found is set to remain closed for the rest of the day, as mystery continues to surround the circumstances.

Suffolk police were called at 1.50pm yesterday to reports a man’s body had been discovered at the side of Elmswell Road in Woolpit, near Bury St Edmunds.

“The man has not been identified and the death is currently being treated as unexplained,” a police spokesman added.

A description of the deceased man has been released.

He is described as being a white male, over the age of 50 and approximately 5 foot tall.

He has short, fair hair, is clean shaven and is wearing a hearing aid in his right ear.

The road has been closed between the junction 47 offslip of the A14 and Woolpit village.

Elmswell Road will remained closed overnight, and was expected to remain closed this morning from Woolpit village to junction 47 of the A14.

Diversions are in place.

A police spokeswoman this afternoon said: “The road is likely to be closed for most of the day or until further notice, and officers will remain at the scene.”

A police cordon is in place at the scene while an investigation is carried out.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to call police on 101 quoting reference number 301 of January 1.
