A number of Suffolk's schools will be partially closed today due to teacher strikes.

Teachers who part of the National Education Union (NEU) walked out last month over a dispute of pay

Helen Yapp Headteacher at Thomas Gainsborough School near Sudbury said: "The school has received notification from the NEU trade union that its members propose to take strike action on Wednesday March 15 and Thursday 16.

"This action relates to a national dispute.

"A sizeable number of the staff are members of this union and therefore the school will be affected by the strike action.

"Consequently, I have undertaken a risk assessment for the school to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students on the strike day and have decided that it is necessary for the school to partially close due to the number of staff who are likely to be involved in the strike."

Here is a list of schools that are affected by today's strike action:

  • Thomas Gainsborough School, Sudbury - Open to Year 13, 12 and 11
  • Ipswich Academy - Open to Year 11 and vulnerable students
  • Thurston Community College - open to Year 11 and 13 students
  • Ormiston Sudbury Academy - open to Year 7, 8 and 11
  • Westley Middle School in Bury St Edmunds - open to Year 6 students
