Ipswich Witches owner Chris Louis has said there is a 'very good chance' Jason Doyle will be racing in Witches colours again in 2023.

The Grand Prix Aussie star was in inspirational form for Ipswich this summer, helping guide the Foxhall Heath side to second place in the Premiership table, although the team missed out on a play-off final place, beaten by Belle Vue in the semis.

However, Doyle's likely return is news all Ipswich fans will be happy to hear.

"Of course I want Jason Doyle back," Louis said when asked about the former world champion's return. "And I'd say there is a very good chance he will be back with us in 2023.

"Why wouldn't I want him back? The chances are great and we'd like to build the team around him again.

"He's everything you want a No.1 to be. He's professional and he uses that professionalism and everybody in the team can see that professionalism.

"He's clearly focussed, determined, committed to the club and the results the club and team gets. And he's a points machine. If there was ever a model No.1, it's Jason Doyle, as far as I'm concerned."

Doyle and the Witches produced some exciting speedway for their fans in 2022, winning the Premiership Pairs, finishing second in the table and making the play-offs.

Louis admits that, despite the disappointment of losing in the semi-finals of the play-offs to Belle Vue, it was a good campaign.

"I thoroughly enjoyed the year and the team," he said.

"We sat top of the table for the vast majority of the season and deservedly so. I was happy with the effort from the team and the character they showed in so many meetings.

"There were about 80% of our meetings where we had to get a result in the last heat and many times we did, so it was good.

"Yes, it was a disappointing finish, but at the end of the day I'm not making excuses, but we lost three key riders in a week and, at that time it was too much for us to recover from. We never really regained momentum again after that.

"But it was a decent season and we won silverware," (the Premiership Pairs).

So, no doubt preparations are underway for the 2023 side?

"Of course and I'm excited about next year," Louis added.

"I don't want to back up was ultimatley a very good 2022 with a poor season, so we have the bit between our teeth to go one better and finish the job next time."
